Costco's food courts are a rumour mill favourite. Any indication of a menu change drives the internet into a frenzy, and a Reddit rumour has been validated.
Costco has raised the price of their popular chicken bake from $2.99 to $3.99. The 20-ounce Coke now costs $0.69, up from $0.59.
The big-box shop isn't immune to inflation and rising food prices, and the food court's recent changes reflect this.
In May, chicken prices rose 17.4% year-over-year, and they're predicted to rise higher in 2022 due to bird flu. Cheese prices rose over 9% in 2022.
Pepsi, a Costco food court soft drink brand, has also raised prices this year to offset increasing shipping and raw material expenses.
Not just the chicken bake and 20-ounce Coke have prices changed at Costco.
Kirkland brand croissants and muffins were each boosted by $1.00 this year, and warehouse price inflation reached 6% in Q2 2022.
Despite these modifications, several Costco goods have kept their cheap cost.
Even if poultry prices rise, shoppers can still get a food court hot dog for $1.50, a slice of pizza for $1.99, or a rotisserie chicken for $4.99.
